Although some condominium buildings and apartments take up collections from residents and give guidance for tipping building staff, most do not. So the annual question of what to give the people who work in your building as a tip for the holidays has come up again. With 24 hour concierge desks, cleaning staffs and other services, it can be a challenge to come up with an amount that seems fair without breaking the bank.
There are many different approaches to tipping building staff but one guideline that I’ve seen used regularly and seems fair is to tip a total amount equal to one month of condo dues or 10 percent of one month’s rent.
Most tipping guides have concierge staff receiving $25-$75 each, housekeeping receiving $20-$30 each and resident manager receiving $75-$150.
Do you plan to tip your building staff?
